  The Lotus Temple, Delhi
by Canadienne

The Baha'i House of Worship is more commonly known as the Lotus Temple, owing to its design. The architecture instantly brings to mind the Sydney Opera house, but is actually meant to represent a lotus flower, with unfurling petals.

This is certainly one of the city's most popular sites, with Indians as well as foreigners. Followers of all faiths are welcomed. The volunteer staff do an amazing job at keeping the crowds under control. I can't recall seeing single-file line-ups anywhere else. ;-)

Once you enter the temple, complete silence prevails and the contemplative atmosphere is hard to resist. Although it's a bit out of the way, visiting the Lotus Temple is worth a little effort to reach.

Directions: A few kilometres south of the city centre
