  Causeway to Haji Ali Mosque

I visited Haji Ali's Tomb in 2000, in the first days after my arrival in the country.

Haji Ali was a wealthy merchant who gave up his riches after a pilgrimage to Mecca. The causeway to the mosque, is almost as interesting as the mosque itself. . .it is lined with people ~ pilgrims, devotees, beggars, and a variety of salesmen (trinkets, puja offerings, etc.) as well.

The mosque is exquisite ~ white marble with a seaside view in all directions. There are also some beautiful decorative engravings in the marble.

Directions: North of Malabar Hill
