Each time we go from Georgia to Florida, we see this Fort. In the beginning I was calling it Fort Clink (like Col. Clink in Hogan's Hero's). Actually it was named for General Duncan Lamont Clinch, an important figure in Florida's Seminole War of the 1830s.

We haven't been from the boat because it is a bit too far to walk from the city as it is 16 miles from 8th Street in Fernandina Beach (Driving Directions: Stay on A1A for 16 miles until you come to the intersection of 8th Street and Atlantic Avenue. Turn right on Atlantic Avenue and go about two miles, Fort Clinch State Park will be on the left.). I thought we might get there in my sister's car when she came to meet us this past November, but my BIL got sick and she was delayed a day so we didn't get there. But I have more pictures and information on the Fort Clinch page

The state park website says: "Fort Clinch State Park, one of the oldest parks in the Florida park system, was acquired in September 1935. The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) was responsible for some of the initial development of the park. A steep ramp leads to the second story of the Fort and Living History reenactors talk about life as a soldier stationed at Fort Clinch."

We finally visited the fort in 2007

Open from 8 a.m. until sundown 365 days a year.
