Looking back down Tuckerman Ravine from above
by mtncorg

There are several glacially-created cirques that indent the slopes of the Presidentials. The cirques here are known as 'gulfs' or 'ravines'. One of the busiest of the cirques is Tuckerman Ravine - busy because of its close proximity to the large AMC camp at Pinkham Notch and the steep cirque walls that attract many would-be backcountry skiers in the winter and spring. A well-graded path extends up the ravine providing the most popular trail up Mt Washington - 4.1 miles and 4288 vertical feet from Pinkham Notch.
