  Arles and its river from the Arena
by kia81

One day of your stay in Camargue shoul be dedicated, on my opinion, to visit Arles, a very interesting and nice town, from the historical and artistic point of view.
Arles is the place where Van Gogh lived during its more producting period.
Arles is just half an hour or 40 minutes from Saintes Maries de la Mer and once there you shouldn't miss:
- the Arena and the Panorama you can see from there;
- Roman ruins
- The ancient theatre (2.000 years!!);
- A walk around the river (Rhones);
- The yellow house where Van Gogh lived with his friend Gauguin;
- The madhouse where Van Gogh stayed and whose garden is the subject of one of his famous tableau;
- Caf? Van Gogh, now a restaurant, that was painted by Van Gogh in 1888 (Place du Forum)

However I was positively impressed by Arles most of all for its flowers, for its colours, its narrow streets and the nice shops and houses. There is a positve atmosphere in the air! (for more photos see my travellogues)
