"Driving" Cuba Transportation Tip by jpierrep

Cuba Transportation: 176 reviews and 162 photos

I recently returned from a Cuban driving experience. Prior to leaving I heard about the horrors of driving in Cuba. I decided to do it anyways. To my surprise it was a pleasure. There is virtually no traffic on Cuban highways, there are plenty of gas stations (.90 us cents/litre), and somewhat smooth. The fact that there is no traffic, is a bonus. The Autopista,is a pleasure . Top speeds in excess of 160 kmh are easily attainable. Just be cautious on secondary roads. Yes indeed the are horses, and bicycles on the roads, but i never found them to be hazardous. The rental car company was very professional, and provided a clean newer model car in excellent condition. No ripoffs, everything was explained up front, and no hiddeen charges upon return.
