"Latin Quarter - great atmosphere, shame about the" Paris Tourist Trap Tip by suzee

Around St Michel, there are beautiful narrow streets (eg Rue de la Huchette) with what seems like thousands of small restaurants. Most are greek, some are chinese (asie) and others are french etc. I've eaten in a few of the chinese restaurants and had no complains, great fast food and lots of choice. The greek restaurants look ok, and my brother had a good meal in one of them plus the kebabs on the street smell great, but i'm afraid if you want good french cuisine don't bother stopping. Most of the restaurants have the same green and yellow menu suggesting the same cheap food, my worst experiences were eating mussels because they offer them at cheap prices they seemed to have not bothered to clean them before cooking. Disgusting! There is one nice one called the half moon (i think), just next to Boulevard St Michel but there are better places elsewhere.

Unique Suggestions: By all means walk around these little streets go to a jazz club like the caveau de la huchette, eat chinese, have something small to keep you going for the rest of the day but don't go there thinking you'll be treated to a gorgeous meal or anything.

Fun Alternatives: if you want proper french food go to the area behind Montparnasse or 138 Boulevard du Montparnasse, walk around St Germain, or Rue Mouftarde etc have Moules Frites in one of the many places that serve seafood.
