Woollemi pine in Sydney's Royal Botanical Garden
by darthmilmo

A visit to Sydney wouldn't be complete without a mandatory walk through the gorgeous flora and fauna of the Royal Botanical Gardens. One of the star attractions is a living specimen of the rare Woollemi pine. This type of pine was just recently discovered in the mid 1990's by a group of bushwalkers trekking in a remote area of the Woollemi Nat'l Park (a few hours from Sydney). The nearest relative was alive back in the age of the dinosaurs. Scientists have examined these fossils and have determined that they are over 60 million year old!
