"Ask about the music played at night" Slovenia Restaurant Tip by karenincalifornia

On the second day we were in Bled, we explored the town and wanted to pick out the perfect place for dinner that night. We came across a charming restaurant owned by two brother from what was then Czechoslavakia. Soft natural afternoon light was streaming through the windows, and a Beethoven sonata was playing on the stereo. What ambiance. We told the brothers we would be back that evening.

We went back that night, but gone was the natural lighting and the Beethoven Sonata. Instead the restaurant was brightly lit and Kenny Rogers' "The Gambler" was blaring out over a loudspeaker system.

We wondered what happened to the Beethoven sonata. The Czech brothers told us that people want to hear US country western music, not music by a German classic composer. They had to play the country western to get people in the door. Interesting what sells in each country...
