  Vila Viçosa Alentejo Portugal
by johnsakura

The Noble town of Vila Viçosa is a very important place in the Alentejo region. One of its important industries is the marble, once called by the"white gold", the precious marble which even the Romans used when they were here. Marble is used to decorate many buildings, along with whitewash.

Because of its importance, King Afonso IV, was the first to receive it as a wedding present, followed by Leonor Teles, King Fernando's lover and was later presented to Nuno Álvares Pereira, the general of King João I.
this is a very rich place to visit. You can spend at least 2 days visiting the almost existing 30 monuments, palaces, museums and sighseeing point in town.
