the old townhall, built during the prime time of the city (13th to 16th century), also used as guild house of the traders. In front of the townhall on the marketplace you find the "Gänseliesel-Brunnen" (fountain)...a little statue, since 1901 on itsplace and the emblem of the city. It is called the most kissed girl ("the Gänseliesel") of the world, because of an old tradition in the university city Göttingen all fresh doctorated men have to kiss her. Unfortunately it is currently in restauration, because someone throwed some month ago a burning couch in the fountain and damaged the statue a lot.
