Kanal in der freien Hansestadt Hamburg
by DanielF

Hamburg is a City-State that has managed to preserve its independence from the times in which it became one of the leading cities within the mighty Hansa League, a title that the city constantly exhibits wiht pride.

Its port, one of the biggest in Europe, has traditionally been the gate of Germany to the rest of the world. Actually Hamburg is organised around the water: an element which is present almost everywhere, name it port, name it Alster, name it canals...

With a population of 1,7 million, Hamburg is nowadays the second city in Germany but, according to statistics, the number one as far as life quality is concerned. If that is something that can be measured, überhaupt.

Directions: On the estuary of the river Elbe, almost 100 kilometer inland from the North Sea.
