Pantheon, Rome: 272 reviews and 577 photos
The Pantheon was built in 117-125 by emperor Hadrian to replace an earlier temple designed by Marcus Agrippa in 27 B.C.
The original rectangular temple, 16 columns, became the porch for the new dome structure. The dome is as high as its diameter 43.3 meters. The dome is made of concrete which was poored onto a frame and later hoisted to the top of the building. There is an opening at the center top of the dome, to let the light in.
The name Pantheon comes from the fact it was originally a temple to all gods.
The Pantheon houses the tombs of RafaŽl and also of the kings of the modern Italy.
