One of true wonders of the world, the colosseum is a massive ampitheater from 80 A.D. which became a symbol of ancient Rome.

What really happened in the Colosseum:
-battles between gladiators and wild animals (lions, hippopotami, bears)
-battles between wild animals (bears v. lions)
-naval battles complete with a flooded colosseum floor and boats

What probably didn't happen in the Colosseum:
-it is believed by historians today that Christians being fed to the lions can't be documented and could be the first urban legend in human history.

Address: Piazzale del Colosseo
Directions: nearest metro: Colosseo (right across the street, along Via dei Fori Imperiali).
