The trail leads up and up to the lighthouse.

From the parking lot at the end of the Cape Point road, you've got two choices: take the funicular to the top, from which it's a short 5-10 minute climb to the little light house at the top overlooking the Point or you can hike up, which would probably take a half hour. A good compromise is to ride up and walk down, which is what I opted to do. After spending some time up at the top admiring the view and trying to stay on my feet due to the fierce Southeaster known as the Cape Doctor, which was "visiting" that day, I embarked on the downward hike. The trail goes through some wonderful fynbos, the Afrikaans word for the highly specialized endemic flora. Many of the plants are found only in this particular area. As forthe views, they are absolutely magnificent.
