This church goes back to the 1080's but was then enlarged and hightened around 1200. It is considered to be one of the finest examples of Polish romanesque style, despite the fact that the interior was refurbished in the baroque era.

An interesting fact is that, according to one of the greatest Polish chronicle writers, Jan Dlugosz, the church was the only one to withstand the Tatar siege in 1241 :-)

This church stands next to St. Peter & Paul's church, the one with the lovely baroque facade (see previous tip). I must say I am rather taken by the architectural contrast of the two!

Directions: Exit the Market Square into Grodzka St. and follow towards the Wawel Castle. You'll see it on your left next to St. Peter & Paul's Church.
