On top of a hill overlooking the city there?s an amazing castle where is the Convento de Cristo (Convent of Christ). This Convent is classified by Unesco as World Heritage site and it?s a fine example of Portuguese architecture and Manuelino style (a kind of Gothic style with nautical motifs inspired by the success Portugal had in crossing the seas and discovering new frontiers). This Convent was built and run by the Order of Templários. In the city you should visit the refreshing garden with a Roman wheel with water, the several churches, walk through the streets and observe other details of Manuelino style and visit the Sinagoga, which is amongst the first being built in Portugal (1430-60).
