  Valborg celebration
by vec

One special Swedish tradition is Valborgsmässoafton celebrated on the evening of April 30. This tradition is called Walpurgis in English.

During the spring the people collect things to burn for a huge bonfire. This fire is called "Majbrasa" or "Valborgsmässoeld". Then people in student caps sing songs around the fire, to celebrate the end of the winter and welcome the spring.

The photo is taken at a such celebration in Storuman in the north of Sweden where it still use to be some snow left in the end of April at the time for this event.
