I already recommended hiking as an activity as Sitka has a great trail system, but I'll go into specifics now. Starrigavin is at one of the road system and very convenient to the ferry terminal. The trails are easy, well maintained and scenic. One is called the Estuary Life Trail which is a raised walkway through the muskeg. It ends at a bird viewing deck and is a great place to look for herons and other birds. I always see Great Blue Herons out here. Also, during the salmon run, Starrigavin creek is packed with salmon. Around the area there also a boat launch, the Old Sitka State Historic Site, camping, picnicking and more easy hiking.
Address: End of Halibut Point Road, at ferry terminal
Directions: Take HPR out of town until it ends, Starrigavin is right there, on the left and right.
Pick up a trail map at US Forest Service, Sitka Ranger district, 201 Katlian St, suite 108, Sitka.
