NEVER, EVER just settle for the first price quoted to you by a sales person when you shop. ALWAYS bargain! Rule of thumb: whatever price they quote you, discount it by 70%. Their markups are always very high, so if you're not satisfied with the discount given, walk away. They'll almost always call you back and accept the price that you offer! This is especially so in the Ubud central market (this place is truly a tourist trap!). Almost everything in Bali can be bargained, except for shops with fixed price tags (even then, there are some that give discounts) and restaurants.
