  Portion of the Old Wall
by Kentbein

Favorite thing: After the Normans arrived they built the castle and surrounding walls of the old city. Dublin's devlopment corporations however, failed to see the value in retaining the remnants of the old walls and city, and have lost a tremendous city heritage. Most Dubliners therefore look upon the Dublin Corporation with disdain, and I have to agree with them.

There are a few remaining glimpses of the ancient city still to be found in some out of the way or unexpected locations though, including this lonely, isolated piece of wall near Castle /Werburgh Streets.

There is another portion of the old city walls to be found called "Tailor's Gate" as you walk towards Mother Redcaps nearby in the Liberties, along Back Lane. Go south one block from the Cathedral on Nicholas Street, and walk west on Back Lane about 10 meters or less. It's tucked away on the north side of Back Lane. Mother Red Caps is just a bit farther down Back Lane, if I remember correctly.
