  "Kat's Bear Wife" Totem Pole
by mcpangie

This is such a striking totem pole. It?s one of my favorites because it?s so simple. I like how the bear tracks go up the pole. Literature at the park and in books describe that this pole is based on Tlingit myth about a grizzly hunter named Kat. When he died his wife mourned deeply by going up into the hills and was known to sing sad songs. I don?t know the story well, and wonder if her singing is the wind howling through the trees? The wind can truly wail when a big storm hits the forests.
