Romario: "Love this pizza!" Buenos Aires Restaurant Tip by mrtourne

Buenos Aires Restaurants: 737 reviews and 763 photos

Romario is a small chain of pizza restaurants (only 9 locations around Buenos Aires and the northern suburbs) - I really love the vibe of this place, especially the Recoleta location (across the Village Recoleta movie theaters) . The dining room is small (probably 20 tables at most), but when it's warm it's expanded with quite a few tables on the sidewalk. which adds to the charm (plus spares you from the heat of the huge oven). The music, which ranges from jazz to bossa nova, at least when I was there, helps set a relaxed mood.

The pizzas are good, especially the fugazzetta (which is a "white pizza", no tomato sauce, with mozzarella, garlic and sauteed onions). Remember this is argentine pizza, which means the sauce will taste more like fresh tomato and won't be as spicy as the pizza sauce we know in the US. The crust is also towards the thin side. Other good variaties are the "Cuatro Quesos" (four cheese), and the Napolitana con Jamon (which has ham and fresh tomato slices)

There's also empanadas (decent) and provoletas (a round slab of grilled provolone cheese with different toppings ) on the menu

Prices are reasonable, a large pizza is about 15 to 20 pesos (around 5 to 6 dollars)

Favorite Dish: The fugazzetta is very good
