"Florentinian neighborhood feeling" Istituto Gould Tip by sphynxxs

Istituto Gould, Florence: 61 reviews and 2 photos

The rooms in the Gould Insitute are neither spacious nor luxurious, but the place is clean, and staff is friendly. Rooms have private bath. Unfortunately the big patio always seems to be locked, it might be otherwise a good place to meet other travellers. As the facilities are a bit austere, no one hangs around a lot in the common rooms, so itıs more difficult than in other guesthouses to meet new people.

Unique Qualities: The location is great - on the left bank of the Arno river and thus not in the main touristy area, yet close to all attractions - itıs just about a 20 minute walk to the Duomo. At the same time just strolling through the streets of the neighborhood you can watch restoration of old furniture, see the local housewifes on their shopping trip and chat (as best as you can) with the local merchants. There are lots of little trattorias and ristorantes, the prices are much more convenient than in the old town, and squares to sit on the steps in front of a church and just relax. Several internet cafes are just a short walk away, lots of coffee bars as well as one of the best gelaterias I know are located in the Via dei Seragli, not far from the Institute
