Gasthof Alter Fuchs (Old Fox): "Great local Austrian cuisine" Top 5 Page for this destination Salzburg Restaurant Tip by WrigleyTodd

We had THE BEST potato soup at the Alter Fuchs. If you like potato soup, try this and be AMAZED... probably tastes nothing like the potato soup you know and probably tastes 100 times better. I had average weiner schnitzel with great knodel. I love knodel, which are the large round dumplings. If American, ask for an English menu. If you want to switch things out, you can. I was able to get knodel instead of something else as my side dish. The atmoshpere is nice hear too... it is in a cellar location with a bar, arched ceilings and stuffed foxes all around the room. Finally, this place is very affordable!

Favorite Dish: Potato soup and knodel. Great coke cola too.

Address: Linzergasse or Linzerstrasse?
Price Comparison: less expensive than average
Directions: It's on the major road running into the new town from the river. A couple minutes past Bergstrasse, on the left when you're walking away from the Salzach river. You can't miss the large words "Gasthof Alter Fuchs".
Price: US$11-20
