"Foca?s Column" Roman Forum - Column of Phocas Tip by aliante1981

Roman Forum - Column of Phocas, Rome: 4 reviews and 4 photos

The one dedicated to Foca - standing right next to the Lake Curtius - is one of the seven solitary columns, and when it was erected (the only one of those columns after the fall of the Roman Empire) it measured a pretty respectable height of 14 meters. Foca was a Byzantine centurion who usurped the Roman throne in year 608. Though he did something (at least, in the Vatican?s eyes) to redeem himself, by givig over the Pantheon to the Pope.
