Dama da Noite: "Samba played live in Lapa" Rio de Janeiro Nightlife Tip by bcorbitt

Rio de Janeiro Nightlife: 204 reviews and 148 photos

This small club in Lapa, a neighbordhood with many good clubs including rio scenarium. The cost for entry is 12 R$ which is paid upon leaving as they hand you a ticket to keep track of food and drink which is paid by cash or credit at the end of the day.

Went there two nights first to hear a samba-chorro cover band that went on to 3am to a packed house though around 1PM it started clearing out mostly of western tourist. The real highlight was going to see the Velha Guarda(pardon my spelling) for Manguiera which are the composers and head musician/singers for the manguiera samba school one of the most famous which counts Milton Nascimento as a member. The junior band for one set and the older group played another and they were both amazing. They place also has good food and the drinks are not too expensive though would recommend to go to one of the street bars first to get a couple large garafes of beer before entering.

Dress Code: Go in cool relaxed clothes that allow you to get up an dance if the mood hits you. I have no rhythm and by the end of the nigh was dancing on a stairwell near the stage.
