August Strindberg (1849-1912) is Sweden's greatest playwright. He is best known for bending the edges between realism and fantasy on stage, plays ranging from naturalistic depictions of hellish maritial relations (i.e. "The Dance of Death") to dreamlike abstractions (i.e. "The Ghost Sonata"). Strindberg's work has had an enormous influence on Ingmar Bergman film and stage work. His last home - an apartment close to the Tegn?rlunden Park - is now a museum (Drottningsgatan 85), and this sculpture stands in the middle of the Tegn?rlunden Square.
