Getting around Phangan can be interesting. The roads are well documented to be mostly dirt, with huge ruts or washouts, steep slippery hills and water crossings. It's 4 wheel drive country for sure. Be very careful riding in the back of the trucks that are used as taxis. You don't see all those burly 4x4's for nothing. If your taxi doesn't look sturdy it probably isn't. I've seen more than a few trucks stuck on the side of the roads or not being able to make it up the hills. Adn if you are planning on renting a motorcycle, be very careful. It can be and is very dangerous just being on the roads...
