This is another stunning Madrassah which, unfortunately, we could only admire from outside. It's set in the middle of a small green park and, surprise, it presents a bizarre minareth. Why? Because it's shape is square. According to the sign outisde the school was constructed around 1315 by order of the Kurdish Prince Sharaffeddeen Issa Ben Omar al-Burtasi. its purpose was to instruct students on the Shafiite rites. It was only in later years that it eventually was turned into a Mosque: the Al-Burtasi Mosque.
