"Somerset House" Somerset House Tip by KittyLou

Somerset House, London: 34 reviews and 94 photos

This building is a stately example of neo-classical style. Today you can visit three different museums which are housed inside: The Courtauld Institute of Art with a large collection including medieval, Renaissance, and Impressionistic works; The Gilbert Collection with its "micro-mosaics" and fine silver collection; The Hermitage Rooms which recreate the Russian imperial style.

My husband and I found the Cafe of The Courtauld a nice place for a hot lunch (he had pasta, I had a delicous Coq au vin).

Should you visit in the winter you will be able to view skating at the rink outside, or you can even book a time to join the skaters yourself.

Address: Strand, WC2
Directions: Somerset House can be entered on foot from Victoria Embankment, Waterloo Bridge (via a new footbridge link), or from the Strand,
tube stop Temple
