Luhansk Off The Beaten Path: 47 reviews and 229 photos
There are several new cathedrals now that were built within the last ten years.
One of them is St.Alexander of the Neva Cathedral in Budyonny Street next to the University Park in the eastern blocks of the city.
It looks very impressive indeed and is ready for public worship.
The cathedral was dedicated in September of 2003 by the President.
It has two parking lots (which is very rare with other cathedrals), a small park with benches and a spectacular entrance.
The cathedral is also known for its bas relief icon at the altar. It depicts the Last Supper and is very rare since it is a bas relief. You will not see such things at our cathedrals.
Another unique thing about this cathedral is the big portrait of Patriarch Kirill who resides in Moscow and lead the activities of the Russian Orthodox Chruch to which this cathedral belongs.
