"The largest construction in Belgium" Cathedral of Our Lady Tip by matcrazy1

I was very surprised to see very, very huge Our Lady's Cathedral (Onze Lieve-Vrouwkathedraal) in the same downtown/center of Antwerp among relatively small (although a few story high) buldings. The cathedral simply seemed to be too large for this location. The cathedral is the largest Gothic construction in Belgium and is well seen as a whole exclusively from one side, the Groenplaats square.

Hmm... I must admit that quite many huge cathedrals are hidden in downtowns/centers of European cities with exclusively towers well seen from the outside (just one good example: cathedral in Strasbourg, France). I think that former open spaces and lower buidings around old cathedrals were little by little replaced by higher ones.

I walked around the cathedral (free) and visited its interiors (not free and forbidden during holy masses). It was forbidden to use flash inside and I didn't have a tripod to take pictures :-(((.
