The Kuranda SkyRail Rainforest Cableway is a 45 minute ride high above the treetops. It covers 7.5 kilometers and is 133 meters above the ground at its highest point. The ride travels between Caravonica Terminal (outside of Cairns) to Kuranda Terminal (high in the mountains of the rainforest) with two stops, Red Peak Station and Barron Falls Station. It is possible to exit the gondolas at the two stations and get a better glimpse of the rainforest up close.
We especially enjoyed the unscheduled stop we had over the Barron River while riding in our gondola. For about 5 minutes (seemed like an hour) we were dangling high above the river wondering why we had chosen to ride this thing and if there were any crocodiles in the river, but after starting up again we were able to relax and enjoy the view. (we later found out that in order to allow the elderly and/or those with physical limitations to board, the gondolas occasionally had to be stopped)
