"Comercio Square" Praça do Comércio - Terreiro do Paço Tip by SonOfLusus

Comercio Square is the former site of a royal palace that was destroyed in the earthquake of 1755. It is the largest square in the city, facing the Tagus River and surrounded by arcaded classical buildings on three sides. In the center is a stutue of king Jose I on horseback with his back to a triumphal arch that was once the gateway to the city for those who arrived by boat. A visit to this square is mandatory especially for those who would like more information about the ciy, since the main tourism office ("Lisboa Welcome Center") is located here.

Address: Rua Augusta 2, 1100-053 Lisboa
Directions: Take the metro on the blue line to the last stop, called Baixa-Chiado.
