Stari Most is the Old Bridge, which is the symbol of the city: 'most' means bridge and 'mostar' the guardians of the bridge. Completely destroyed in the war, this Ottoman bridge, thanks to the joint efforts of the World Bank and Unesco, is slowly being reconstructed the way it was, using the original stones which are being fished out of the Neretva river. When I was there they had just started rebuilding it, and one could walk over the river again, but on an iron bridge.
