Favorite thing: Landscape is made of dry grass with sandstone rocks, eroded over time by wind and rain into weird shapes.

The park is 15 km South from Ranohira village.

Leave the RN7 and take your right... then be ready to walk, cycle, drive your 4wd (no berline there)...

Half a day is said to be enough to make some tour in the park. Yet, most interesting stays are of minimum one-two days (trekking with camping, for instance). Then, you will have the opportunity to immerge yourself in this awesome area, very atmospheric.

Normally, they (the park services and the guides) would suggest several possible circuits. You will choose according to the time you would allow to the visit, your physical conditions (some circuits require some fit conditions).

Amongst the most popular:
- La piscine naturelle (The rock pool), easy access, smooth upslopes.
Great panoramic views - Bara and Sakalava tombs. A savannah with specific flora- Botanical garden with rock plants - The weird shaped eroded massif with picturesque colours. This circuit would take you 15 mn by car or 40 mn on foot to go to the entry + 1h20 mn - 2 h 20 mn on foot (the visit in itself)

- Les canyons des rats et des makis (Rat and Lemur valley)
It required a better physical condition already. You will be granted with the great views. Also part of landscape are ricefields, cliffs with narrow but deep gorges. You will see an ancient royal village (local kingdom), Bara tomb.
You will go through the savananh, of course and strangely enough through lush flora and forest. Oasis in the middle of dry area, with cascades, rockpools. Best circuit to spot lemurs. This circuit would take you 40 mn by car or 2h on foot to go to the entry + 2h - 4h on foot (the visit in itself)

The toughest turns out to be the most rewarding circuit: Grottes de Teniky and Sahanafa forest

Fondest memory: Definately, guiding is mandatory.

Ah I forgot, you have to have your ticket that you may buy at ANGAP (Tana) or at Maison d'accueil (Ranohira).

Take your time to visit the park. You will not regret it. Camping is really sought for as well.
