This is simply a warning. Accommodation in Geneva is notoriously hard to find. Frequent huge conferences mean that there are periods where a hotel or hostel room are impossible to find for love nor money.

Also, if you are actually thinking of moving here for any length of time, beware! Long term accommodation is both expensive and hard to find. $1000 francs a month might get you a studio apartment if you are really lucky. Dreams of a spare bedroom or study are just that, dreams.

Unique Qualities: Another warning. Unfurnished apartments are seriously unfurnished. Many will quite possibly have no light fittings, just bare wires hanging from the ceilings. Some may not even have kitchen cupboards, and when I moved into my apartment it also had no oven or stove!

Be prepared to pay upfront a months rent in advance, plus a month or 6 weeks rent as bond.

One positive is that in most furnished apartments, the rent includes electricity & water. In an unfurnished apartment, an amount for water will be included in the regular rent, and if you use excess over the year you will get a bill, or a refund if you use less. Check to see if your rent includes "telereseau" which is a basic package of television channels, including a few english channels.

Oh, and be warned; in Switzerland you must pay a quarterly tax on each radio or television set in your home.
