"Free Moorings" Indian Key Sports & Outdoors Tip by grandmaR
Indian Key Sports & Outdoors: 1 reviews and 1 photos
There are 5 or 6 moorings near Indian Key which are free provided by the park service. The moorings are free so that the park service has no liability. The area on the other side of the cove is marked as an anchorage area on the chart.
The park service inspects the moorings at least yearly, and renews the line when necessary. But the moorings sometimes break loose in a storm or are sabotaged by the crab fishermen. When we came back in March there were only two left.
Equipment: The mooring has a line (which floats) on it and it can be picked up with a boat hook and attached to the boat. The mooring ball does not have a ring on it however. If the mooring line has been there for some time be careful as it will be slimey.
Do not anchor on the grass flats (usually marked by a yellow ball) unless you want a massive fine.
