The Tower called Baszta is the oldest building in Kazimierz. It was erected problably at the end of the 13th century. It has an impressive height of 20 metres and a diameter of about 10 metres. The wall of the tower is 4 metres thick at its base. The entrance to the tower is 6 metres above groud level.
The tower was built out of the local building material - the marl from the Kazimierz.
The tower is thought to be a remnant of the original castle with wooden and earth fortifications which had a stone building at its centre.
Traditionally the tower was used as a river lighthouse (at night bonfires were made there to serve as a point of orient.
