The museum was founded in 1936 to showcase Texas' vast natural diversity. There are over 280,000 specimens which includes the worlds largest exhibit of Texas wildlife habitats as well as the first mounted Texas dinosaur.
Outside the Museum are sculptures of prehistoric animals all made out of metal car bumpers. The T. Rex sculpture stands 18ft tall and weighs 2 tons.
