  Indian River Fall
by PA2AKgirl

There is an excellent trail system around Sitka with your choice of difficulty, length and scenery. The Indian River Trail is about 6 miles one way to a beautiful waterfall...it's fall until the last 1.5 miles or so and then you walk up a riverbed. When the salmon are spawning, the river is covered with "humpies" Just watch out for bears in the morning or evening! Downtown has okay giftshops but only by stuff that says "Made in Alaska" on it:) The Park (locally called "totem park") is great, you can go into the artists studios and watch them carve, bead, engrave (during peak season only...may-oct.1) You won't get bored here, believe me.

Address: The town is small and walkable
Directions: the Park and Indian River are 1/2-3/4 mile from town. One road (Lincoln St) will take you to it.
