  Nizwa, fort
by sachara

The Nizwa fort is one of the oldest forts in Oman. It is built around 1660 by Sultan Bin Saif, the first iman of the Al-Yaribi dynasty.
During 300 years it was the primary seat of the imamate. The fort is a rather large complex of buildings, serving as a palace, seat of government and a prison.
Inside the fort you can have a look at the storerooms, the waterwell, an exhibition halll, the fortifications, the garden and the falaj irrigation system.
From the tower the view at the town, the oasis and mountains is wonderful.

Opening hours:
daily from 7.30 am till 4 pm.
No admission fee.

Directions: Nizwa town, just behind the Sultan Qaboos mosque.
