Within the greater Muscat area is Muscat the old port area.
In Muscat is the sultan's Al-Alam palace.
Within the citywalls are also some old traditonal houses (baits), like Bait Nadir, Bait Graiza, Bait Zawawi and Bait Nasib.
Some of the houses can be visited and easliy reached by feet from the Bab-al-Kabir.
The Bait Fransa, built in 1896, became the office and residence of the French consul in 1906. The house itself with Arab and Indian influences is allready worth a visit.
In 1989 it was converted into the Omani French museum. You can see galleries with antiques, traditional dresses, shipbuilding and vessels, crafts, furniture, documents about the relation between the two countries

Opening hours Omani-French Museum:
8.00 am till 2.00 pm, closed at fridays.
No entrance fee.
