  Muscat, capital area
by sachara

Greater Muscat, the capital area, is a large area of 50 KM, with ''three central cities'', Muscat, Mutrah and Ruwi. In the west are Qurm, Khuwair and Medinat Gaboos, in the south-east Al Bustan and Qantab.
The different parts of the capital are separated by low hills at the foot of the Hajar mountains. When we drove around in the area, we sometimes hardly could imagine to be in the capital. We drove 180 Km in one day.
Muscat is the old port area, Mutrah is the main trading and port residential area and Ruwi a few KMs inland is the capital's modern commercial district.
The capital has about 630.000 inhabitants, with a bit more than 50% Omanis.
