On a sad day for Australia
by iandsmith

List the ten best known beaches in the world and this one usually gets a guernsey. Located on the south eastern side of Sydney it is a fairly average beach, usually reasonably safe for surfing and it attracts tourists by the tens of thousands, particularly poms and kiwis (English and New Zealanders). Just beyond its foreshore lies a polyglot of restaurants and accommodation houses trying to look modern but somehow I come away with the impression that it's a happening place but just a little run down.
There is definitely a feeling of life here anytime of the day, along with a touristy friendliness and laid back attitude. One thing I will say about Sydney, and particularly Bondi, it doesn't matter how you dress, you'll fit in. Shorts and thongs, suit and tie; doesn't matter, you'll feel comfortable, unlike Paris or Rome.
This shot was taken the day we lost the World Cup of rugby, which is probably why the sun wouldn't shine on the normally golden sands!
