Carlton College: "Good Hostel in Melbourne" Melbourne Hotel Tip by grkboiler

Carlton College is a hostel/student residence. I lived on the student's side here during my time in Melbourne, and stayed a few nights in the hostel when my contract was up. It is set in a 3-story Victorian home. The atmosphere is much quieter than a typical hostel. It is located in Carlton, about a 10 minute walk from the city centre, or a few minutes walk from the tram stops on Swanston Street or Latrobe Street.

The rooms are very comfortable, bathrooms are clean, and the staff is friendly and helpful. There is a locked door separating the hostel side from the student side.

If you are going to be living in Melbourne as a student, this is a great place to stay. You meet plenty of people and there are activities planned all the time. The food is edible, but you are one block off Lygon Street so there are plenty of restaurants nearby and a convenience store around the corner.

Unique Qualities: For the hostel, you can get a night in a dorm for as low as AU$15 or a single or double room for about $40-50. Bathrooms are shared. Parking is available. Internet access, TV lounge, laundry facilities, and kitchen.

If staying here as a student or for a fixed term, you must fill out an application.
