Amsterdam, one of and THE place with "grachten"

Amsterdam has them and everyone knows, but in Holland (the most Western provinces) almost all historical town have canals. Perfect examples are Utrecht, Amersfoort, Leiden, Delft, Gouda and even Amsterdam's counterpart: Rotterdam (though here they are overshaded by the harbour works. Of course, no-where on earth there's such a vast network of canals that hold such style as the ones in Amsterdam, but canals - as you will find out when visiting more then one town with them - have their own charme. It's the presence of water within the towns. The cays, boats (and thus boatttrips) and historical importance that make these typical Dutch items so important. And if you haven't had enough in The Netherlands, in Flanders (Belgium) there are as many town with canals, though here they are not clled "grachten" (like in NL), but "Reien".
