This model of GGI was designed by the Pennsylvania Railroad when they were looking to fit a need for a locomotive that could pull more than 12 to 14 passenger cars. This particular train which was built in 1934 ended up surviving longer than any other American locomotive design. It's run lasted well into the 1980s. There were 139 units built between the years 1934 and 1943 but only 16 still survive today. The PR4903 along with the PR 4901 pulled the funeral train of Sen. Robert Kennedy on June 8 1968 from New York to Washington.
