In this wonderful, majestic cathedral are no less than 4 works by PETER PAUL RUBENS on display!

He is the best-known and versatile ANTWERP BAROQUE PAINTER.

3 Paintings - including some masterpieces from the 17th Century - were made by RUBENS especially for this Cathedral.

A 4th work of art was aquired by the Cathedral after the French occupation.

This Cathedral tells a story of GLORY & PROSPERITY and even more so one of SORROW & DISASTER.

This is a story of people who built DREAMS, people who expressed their allegiance to GOD and their fellow men.

For over a 1000 years, Mary has been the patroness of this Cathedral and of the city of Antwerp.

Each year thousands of people come and express their love and sorrow to Mary, our Lady!

This church is much more than just a museum filled with valuable treasures, it is still an active place of worship.

Time and again we feel the need to have this story being told. However, the Cathedral needs money......

The Province of Antwerp & the Flemish Region both donated substantional amounts of money for the restorations but....during the guided tou we had, it became clear, yes, it was clearly visible how much more work still has to be done....

I have to admit that I didn't realise that daily maintenance of the Cathedral alone costs 1,50 million EUROS each & every year!!!

We want this place to be one were light and stones, works of art and carved wood all tell a story and preferably a GLORIOUS one.....
